Antique Chinese Embroidery
How can I conserve, preserve and display antique embroidered clothing?
I have a knit-wool jacket, a baby carrier, a long silk-thread belt and embroidery from a chinese village to display. They have all been used a lot. Should I clean them? How? How can I preserve and display them? Any ideas for a nice design frame for such items? Thanks.
If there are no stain or dirt on the clothing, avoid cleaning them. If you really have to, the safest and easiest way to clean textiles is to vacuum them. Wet cleaning, dry cleaning and ironing should be used with caution.
A case enclosed with glass is ideally used to display these items. Sealing strips made of silicon are applied to ensure an airtight seal.Take note, the best storage environment for textiles is clean, dark, cool, and moderately dry, with a constant temperature and relative humidity. Consider these factors before deciding where to locate your display case.
