what does it take to open a jewlery store?
besides jewlery, money, or the obvious answers, what does it really take? what degrees do you need to have? do you have to know how to make jewlery? if so, how does one learn how to do this?
im really into stones, rocks, and gems and i think that opening a store would be something i would like to do.
You don’t need to know how to make jewelry but you need a few different degrees- like jewelry appraisal, jewelry repair, jewelry identification- like stone types, metal types- grade, you also need a loan for all the tools like engravers,business degree, but most of all -people apprentice, no one just goes takes some classes and says hey I think I want to start a jewelry business, you need to apprentice under someone that’s been in it for a long time to learn everything you really need to. You also need to have a lot of money and assets in the first place before a bank will even consider loaning you the money for a jewelry store.
If you are young (18-20ish) and someday want your own jewelry store the best thing to do would go and get your gemology degree and jewelry repair and then go get in working as an apprentice for someone that owns their own store- not a chain.
